A traffic stop Monday afternoon led to a long list of criminal charges – including arson, weapons and drug charges – against the three occupants.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. members of the Guelph police Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) were patrolling in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Bristol Street when they observed a motor vehicle being driven by a male they knew was wanted for arson.

Police allege that on the evening of April 28 the male had attended a motel in the north end of the city and set fire to the door of a room. There were two adult females inside the room. The male had been in a dispute with one of the females over money owed. The fire burned itself out, but not before some smoke billowed into the room. No injuries were reported.

The male was arrested during the traffic stop Monday. Subsequent investigation revealed bear spray, three bullets, approximately $4,200 worth of suspected fentanyl and several stolen cheques inside the vehicle.

A 32-year-old Guelph male is charged with arson, uttering threats, possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.

A 34-year-old Guelph male is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property, possessing a weapon contrary to an order and two counts of failing to attend court. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.

A 34-year-old Guelph female is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property. She will appear in a Guelph court August 24.
