A Kitchener female faces impaired driving charges after she was clocked driving more than 30 km/h over the speed limit in Guelph early Friday.

A Guelph police officer observed her motor vehicle driving 91 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone on Woodlawn Road West at 3:30 a.m. and stopped the vehicle near Michener Road.

The officer detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and her eyes were red and bloodshot. She was arrested after registering a fail on an approved roadside screening device. Following her arrest the officer noted a partial can of alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle.

The female was taken to the Guelph police station where further testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

A 23-year-old Kitchener female is charged with impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration, speeding and driver having open alcohol available. She will appear in a Guelph court May 14. Her driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
