Collision, fraud, wanted persons, break and enter, calls for service

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

On Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at approximately 2 p.m., Guelph Police attended an address on Marilyn Drive to investigate a break and enter where laundry machines were targeted. The culprit(s) gained entry sometime overnight. Damaged was caused to two machines on the property and coins were stolen from both machines.

On Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Guelph Police responded for a single vehicle collision on Elizabeth Street. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. The driver then proceeded to exit the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene but was followed and detained by a witness. The vehicle was damaged beyond repair and it is estimated that total damages to the vehicle and surrounding property will be in excess of $10,000.

Konrad Karcz, a 27-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with impaired driving, over 80mgs and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. He was given March 6, 2018 court date.

On Feb. 19, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Guelph Police were called to the intersection of Waterloo Avenue and Dublin Street South, where there was a report of a two vehicle collision. Investigation revealed that a Volkswagen, driven by a 44-year-old Guelph female, and a Kia, driven by a 55-year-old Guelph female, collided in the intersection.

The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to the hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries. As a result of investigation, the driver of the Volkswagen was charged with careless driving, under the Highway Traffic Act.

On Feb. 15, 2018 at approximately 4 p.m., Guelph Police responded for a fraud reported at a South end department store. On Feb. 17, 2018, Guelph Police arrested the accused, Katrina Evans, a 28-year-old Guelph female, and she was charged with Fraud Under $5,000. She was given a court date of April 4, 2018.

In the early morning hours of Feb. 16, 2018, the owner of a home in the west end of Guelph observed a male going through his vehicle and attempting to enter his home. The resident noted that there was a sum of cash missing from his vehicle. Later in the day, the resident recognized the male that had gone through his vehicle and contacted police. Police were able to locate the male and arrest him. Cody Larsen, a 21-year-old Guelph man, was arrested and charged with break and enter (attempt), theft under, breaching his recognizance and two counts of breaching his probation order. He attended a bail hearing on Feb. 17, 2018.

Between 7am on Friday, February 16, 2018 and 7am on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 694 calls for service.
