Between Friday, December 29, 2017 to Monday, January 1, 2018, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 698 calls for service

The following news releases were issued by the Guelph Police Service:

Disturbance at the hospital

On Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, Guelph police were called to the Guelph General Hospital, where there was a report of a disturbance. Police arrived and assisted. As a result of the subsequent investigation, a 20-year-old Guelph male was charged with one count of mischief under $5,000, four counts of utter threats and five counts of breaching his probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.

Routine compliance check results in an arrest

On Dec. 28, 2017 members of the Guelph Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit were conducting compliance checks relevant to the Sexual Offender’s Registry. As a result of a compliance check, police began investigating a male. This subsequent investigation lead to a 34-year-old Guelph male being arrested and charged with disobey court order and breaching his probation order.

Fire alarm leads to arrest

On Dec. 30, 2017 at 7:20 p.m., Guelph police, along with the Guelph Fire Department, were called to a building on Surrey Street, where a fire alarm had been activated. The alarm was quickly determined to be a false alarm. Police began looking into the circumstances of the alarm. As a result of this investigation, a 30-year-old Guelph woman was arrested and charged with false alarm of fire, mischief under $5,000 and two counts of breaching her probation order. She was held for a bail hearing.

Wanted male arrested

On Jan. 1, 2017 at approximately 4 a.m., Guelph police were called to an east end residence. While on scene and dealing with an unrelated incident, police observed a male known to be wanted. The 36-year-old Guelph male was immediately arrested for failing to appear in court. He was held for a bail hearing.

Wanted female arrested

On Jan. 1, 2018 at 6:35 p.m. while on an unrelated call, Guelph police officers observed a female in a downtown residence that was wanted. The 21-year-old female was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and breaching her probation order. She was held for a bail hearing.

Trespass by night - arrest

On Jan. 2, 2018 at approximately 2:40 a.m., Guelph police were called to the area of Sunrise Court where there was a report of males checking and entering vehicles. Upon police arrival, males were seen fleeing the area into backyards. After a brief foot pursuit, two males were arrested and charged. Joshua Mensah, a 19-year-old Toronto male and Junior Barnett, a 21-year-old Etobicoke male, were charged with trespass by night and attempt theft. Both were given a Feb. 13, 2018 court date.

For four days that encompass Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 to Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 698 calls for service.
