Guelph Police responded to 220 calls for service

The following news release was issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Stolen vehicle reported and recovered
On June 1, 2020 at 6:03 p.m., Guelph Police received a report that a 2017 Volkswagon Golf had been stolen from the parking lot of a retail property at the corner of Silvercreek Parkway North and Willow Road in the City of Guelph. The owner of the vehicle left the unlocked vehicle running while they attended inside a local business. Upon returning to the parking lot they discovered their vehicle had been stolen.

On June 2, 2020 at 3:35 a.m., Guelph Police were conducting proactive patrol in the area of Fife Road and Wellington Street West in the City of Guelph when an officer noticed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle travelling Westbound on Fife Road. As the vehicle pulled into a parking lot, police followed and blocked the vehicle. It was quickly determined the vehicle was in fact the stolen vehicle and the lone male driver was placed under arrest.

A 29-year-old Guelph male was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breach of probation. He will be in Guelph Court on Sept. 18, 2020.

Guelph Police would like to remind all motorists and homeowners to keep doors closed and locked at all times. It only takes a thief a few seconds to steal your property.
