Theft of copper wire

With prices that can hover around $3 or higher per pound for scrap, copper wire has always been a sought after target for many thieves. Yesterday the GPS reported on a break and enter that occurred over the weekend and involved the theft of wiring from transformers at a Johnston Street business. A second incident was also reported to police yesterday on Gosling Gardens where a home under construction was entered sometime over Saturday or Sunday night and approximately $500 worth of copper wire was taken.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact  Cst J. Beecraft at 519-824-1212 at extension #7186. Anonymous tips can be left at CRIME STOPPERS 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online at www.csgw.tips.

Police would like to encourage people to be extra vigilant if you live in areas where homes are actively being built or are being renovated. Please call police immediately if you see any suspicious activity after normal business hours where these thefts routinely occur.
