Assault downtown On May 9, 2016 at 2:20 p.m., the Guelph Police went to 55 Wyndham Street North for an assault complaint. It is alleged that a female was with her two dogs when a man known to her approached.

On May 9, 2016 at 2:20 p.m., the Guelph Police went to 55 Wyndham Street North for an assault complaint. It is alleged that a female was with her two dogs when a man known to her approached. He began kicking and punching at one of the dogs. The female intervened and he punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground. One of her dogs then bit the man on his arm and he fled the area on foot. Police located him and he was arrested. He was taken to Guelph Hospital where he was treated for a laceration to his left forearm.

Sonny Downey, 38 years old of Guelph has been charged with assault. He will appear in court on June 14, 2016.

 Break and enter

On May 9, 2016 at 8:26 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Bard Boulevard residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage sometime overnight by using the remote from one of the cars in the driveway. No theft is reported.

Suspicious person call leads to arrest

On May 9, 2016 at 8:30 p.m., the Guelph Police went to 451 Stevenson Street North for the report of three people that had hopped the fence and were on the property. Police located the three on the property and spoke with them. Continued investigation determined that the male identified to police with a false name. Police attempted to arrest him but he resisted. After a brief struggle he was arrested.

The 27-year-old Guelph man has been charged with obstruct police and resist arrest. He was also charged under the Trespass to Property Act with enter premises when entry prohibited. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 10, 2016.

Theft from cars

On May 9, 2016 the Guelph Police received seven reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Macalister Boulevard, Davison Drive, Grange Road, Breesegarden Lane, Ironwood Road, Buckthorn Crescent and Victoria Road South.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Transportation fraud

On May 10, 2016 at 12:30 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Imperial Road North to assist a cab driver with a male. It is alleged that the male owed a fare but was unwilling to pay it. The man was arrested by police.

The 33-year-old Guelph man has been charged with transportation fraud, breach of recognizance and two counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 10, 2016.
