Members of Guelph Police Service’s High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) routinely perform compliance checks to ensure that people are abiding by the conditions that are imposed upon them by the judicial system. After performing one of these compliance checks on a male at a Janefield Avenue address, a search warrant was obtained when a number of bicycles and assorted parts, believed to be stolen,  were seen strewn around the property.

On the evening of June 1, HEAT and Tactics and Rescue Unit executed that search warrant and confirmed that some of the property found, including bicycles in varying states of disassembly along with identity documents, had been previously stolen. There was also a spring loaded knife and number of pellet guns that resembled actual firearms discovered. Investigation into ownership of all the property continues.

The two males, aged 19 and 22 years, are charged with an assortment of weapons, property and breach of probation charges. They were held in custody and will appear in bail court today.

Not only in this particular incident, but in many more, police are recovering/finding a large quantity of property without any ability to return it to its rightful owners and it eventually gets disposed of at auction. The Guelph Police Service wants to continue to encourage people who have fallen victim to any type of theft, even when there is no suspect information, to report the crime using the Guelph Police CopLogic online reporting system. You can find this on the Guelph Police website under Online Reporting.

The hope is that any information provided with respect to a manufacture brand name, a serial number or a very detailed description, can be used to return that property to the people it belongs to.
