Two face slew of charges after police discover them in stolen truck

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA - On March 26, 2018 at approximately 4:40 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling southbound on County Road 49, Township of Guelph Eramosa. 

The officer observed a male walking alone approximately 30 feet to the north of a stopped pickup truck that was seen to be half on/half off the roadway.

Police stopped and observed a lone male passenger seated in the front passenger seat. A check on the truck revealed it to be stolen from Waterloo Region.

Both males were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime. A search incident to arrest located stolen property both in the truck and on the person of each accused.

45-year-old Michael Edward Clarke of Erin has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Possession of an Identity Document
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5,000
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5,000 x 3
  • Use of Credit Card
  • Fraud under $5,000

He was held for bail.

38-year-old Richard St. Amour of Mississauga has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Possession of an Identity Document
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5,000
  • Possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5,000 x2

He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on April 27, 2018 to answer to the charges.
