Two separate collisions result in impaired driving charges

Both drivers face licence suspensions

On Saturday, March 3, 2018 at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single vehicle collision Wellington Road 19, east of Fergus. No injuries were reported when a silver sedan entered the ditch.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Thirty-year-old Michael James Stewart of Fergus has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with over 80mg of alcohol per 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on April 6, 2018.

On Friday, March 2, 2018 at approximately 7:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single vehicle roll-over on Wellington Road 22, near Oustic. The lone occupant, a male driver, suffered minor injuries when the white van he was driving entered a ditch and rolled. He did not require medical assistance.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Fifty-year-old Leanid Zanko of Kitchener has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with over 80mg of alcohol per 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on April 4, 2018.
