UPDATE: Driver dies in medical incident that triggered Stone Road collisions

Woman airlifted to hospital was reading a book under a tree when the out-of-control pickup hit her on Stone Road Thursday afternoon

Guelph police say a man died after suffering a medical incident whild driving on Stone Road Thursday afternoon that led to a woman being hit and being airlifted to hospital.

Approximately 3:35 p.m., a pickup truck was westbound on Stone Road West when the driver suffered a medical episode. The truck left the roadway, striking a female pedestrian who had been sitting under a tree reading before colliding with several parked and unoccupied vehicles and coming to rest in the Stone Road Mall parking lot.

Lifesaving efforts were undertaken at the scene by an off-duty nurse.

A 64-year-old Guelph man was transported to Guelph General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The 32-year-old pedestrian was transported by air ambulance to an out of area hospital for treatment of serious lower-body injuries. A female passenger in the pickup was not physically injured.
