Vehicle rear-ended at R.I.D.E. check, driver charged with impaired

On July 7, 2019 at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Expressway near College Avenue in the City of Guelph.

Officers observed a southbound sport utility vehicle (SUV) enter into the checkpoint too fast and rear-end a vehicle that was stopped and force it forward into another vehicle that was also stopped.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Amritpal Singh, 23-years-old of Brampton has been charged with impaired operation and over 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Aug. 9, 2019 to answer to the charges.

On July 7, 2019 at approximately 2:40 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Expressway near College Avenue in the City of Guelph.

Officers spoke with the driver of a silver sedan that entered into the checkpoint and formed the opinion that they were under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Kuldeep Kapoor, 35-years-old of Milton has been charged with over 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Aug. 9, 2019 to answer to the charge.

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On July 7, 2019 at approximately 9:05 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a motorcycle on Wellington Road 109 at Wellington Road 10 in the Township of Wellington North for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) infraction.

During the investigation, officers determined that the driver had alcohol in their body and a roadside screening device was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Thomas ‘Franklin’ Manning, 58-years-old of Listowel has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Aug. 9, 2019 to answer to the charge.

TOWN OF ERIN - On July 6, 2019 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information regarding a possible impaired driver operating a brown sedan on Side Road 5 in the Town of Erin.

Police attended the known address of the driver and located them. While speaking with the suspect, officers formed the opinion that the driver was impaired by alcohol. They were arrested and transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation Anthony Osatchuk, 44-years-old of Guelph/Eramosa Township has been charged with impaired operation contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Aug. 9, 2019.
