BLIND RIVER - On July 15, 2017, at 3:27 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint regarding an erratic driver on Highway 17 in Algoma Mills.

Police patrolled the area and located the vehicle at a gas station in Blind River. This vehicle was reported stolen on July 12, 2017, from Puslinch Township in Wellington County.    

OPP officers approached the male driver who allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle. After investigation, the vehicle was recovered and the male was arrested.

A male individual, 35 years of age of Brampton, Ont., was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle, contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Flight while pursued by a peace officer, contrary to section 249.1(1) of the CC
  • Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice (identity fraud), contrary to section 403(1)(d) of the CC
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. on July 18, 2017.
