Victim, accused identified in Belwood homicide

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON – On July 1, 2020, at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an address on Poplar Place in the Township of Centre Wellington to check on the well-being of the occupant. Officers gained entry into the home and subsequently located a deceased male. The male has been identified as Giorgio "George" Gemin, 74-years-old of Belwood, Township of Centre Wellington.

On July 2, 2020, Kyle John George Gemin, 31-years-old of Belwood was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code (CC). The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) along with OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) continue to investigate the homicide.

The accused appeared by video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on July 2, 2020 where he was remanded into custody. A subsequent court appearance is scheduled for July 3, 2020 by video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.
