Victim suffers numerous broken bones in Edinburgh Road wheelchair collision

On May 14, 2019, the Guelph Police went to a collision at Edinburgh Road North and Willow Road. Investigation determined that at approximately 11:36 a.m., a 56-year-old Guelph man operating an electric wheel chair was crossing within the intersection when he was struck by a four-door sedan which was operated by a 50-year-old Guelph woman. The sedan then partially left the roadway and struck a cement retaining wall on the east side of the roadway.

The male was transported to the Guelph General Hospital by members of the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services. He sustained a number of broken bones as a result of the collision. The female driving the sedan was uninjured.

Several witnesses remained at the scene and provided very important information to police that has assisted in the investigation. Anyone that witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police are asked to get in touch with the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit at (519) 824-1212 ext. 7514. The investigation is ongoing.

As we enter into the Provincial wide Road Safety Week, the Guelph Police ask all drivers of motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians to stay alert, avoid distractions and slow down!
