Three people face weapons and drug charges after search warrants were executed Wednesday at a downtown Guelph apartment building, report Guelph police.

Earlier this month, the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit began an investigation into the unlawful possession of a restricted firearm.

As a result of the investigation, members of the BEAT Unit and Guelph Police Service Tactical Unit executed search warrants Wednesday morning at a downtown apartment building.

Police seized what they believe to be a modified restricted firearm as well as a number of replica firearms and other weapons. Police also seized 9.9 grams of cocaine, 23.6 grams of fentanyl, 6.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 107 Hydromorphone pills with a total street value of approximately $6,000.00.  Police also seized a quantity of cash and several other items which are believed to be stolen property.

Two Guelph males, aged 30 and 34, and a 40-year-old Guelph female face several charges including possessing a firearm and possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. They will all appear in a Guelph bail court Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be forthcoming.

“We are pleased to see that the new BEAT team is already making a positive impact and increasing public safety in our community,” said Investigative Services Staff Sgt. Ben Bair in a news release. “Stolen property offences are often linked to drug trafficking and firearms. The new BEAT team is playing an integral part in promoting community safety with their investigations.”
