Car taken without consent, stolen vehicles, calls for service

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

Just before 2 a.m. this morning, police received information from the owner of a white Kia FLX that the vehicle had been taken without consent by a known person when it was parked at a Silvercreek Parkway address. A short while later police located the vehicle operate by the male suspect in the south end of the city. 

When officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, that interaction led officers to believe that the driver’s ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The male was arrested and transported to the station where testing registered readings above the legal limit.

The 41-year-old Guelph man is charged impaired driving, drive vehicle- over 80mgs,  take motor vehicle without consent, breach of probation and a number of provincial driving offences. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.

Sometime overnight on Dec. 19,  an unknown person(s) forced the door of the a Brant Avenue apartment building's basement laundry room and then forced open the coin portion of the machines to take the money inside. The damage to the machines is estimated to be $1000.

At approximately 6:35pm on Dec. 19, a white, four door 2016 Kia Soul was taken from a Speedvale Avenue East apartment when it was left running in the lot.

Sometime overnight on Dec. 17, a black Cadillac Escalade was taken from a lot on Watson Road and was reported seen in early morning hours of Dec. 19 in the area of College Avenue/Scottsdale Drive.
