Guelph police responded to 214 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Reporting incidents to the Guelph Police Service
The Guelph Police Service has recently noticed an increases in members of the public attempting to make reports through both posts and private messages sent to our social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public that unfortunately we do not take reports over social media.

However, there are many other ways to report an incident:

  • You should dial 9-1-1 if an incident is an emergency, in progress and an immediate danger to yourself or someone else.
  • You should dial 519-824-1212 if you’re not in an emergency situation and no person or property is in immediate danger.
  • You can file an online report through www.GuelphPolice.ca for the following incidents:
    • Damage or mischief to a vehicle (other than by a collision and under $5,000)
    • Damage or mischief to property (under $5,000)
    • Lost or stolen drivers licences
    • Lost property (under $5,000)
    • Stolen licence plates
    • Theft (under $5,000)
    • Theft from vehicle (under $5,000)

Numerous stolen vehicles
Sometime between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2020, a black 2005 GMX Sierra pickup truck was taken from the parking lot of a commercial plaza located near the intersection of Clair Road East and Gordon Street in the City of Guelph.

On Feb. 18, 2020 at 10:15 p.m., a red 2019 Ford 250 was taken from out front of a store located near the intersection of Wellington Street West and Imperial Road South in the City of Guelph. The vehicle was left running with the keys in the ignition.

The Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public to lock your vehicles and never leave an unattended vehicle running with the keys in the ignition.

Residential break-in
Sometime between Feb. 17 and 18, 2020, a residence located near the intersection of Paisley Road and Silvercreek Parkway North in the City of Guelph was entered. Numerous items were taken including passports, birth certificate, Android box, alcohol, $5,000 worth of jewellery, collector coins, clothing and jackets.

Male arrested after commercial break-in
On the morning of Feb. 16, 2020, an adult male entered a commercial unit under construction located in the downtown core of the City of Guelph, and [allegedly] stole approximately $3,000 worth of tools.

On Feb. 18, at 9:28 a.m., police located the male in the downtown core and arrested him.

A 42-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Break enter commit theft
    •    Possess stolen property

He will appear in court on March 27.
