Just after 6 p.m. on June 20, a male went into a Stone Road Mall store and distracted an employee while he took a gold necklace valued at $1,600 and left the store.

Jewellery theft

Just after 6 p.m. on June 20, a male went into a Stone Road Mall store and distracted an employee while he took a gold necklace valued at $1,600 and left the store. Police were called to investigate and located the suspect short time later in the area and arrested him. The necklace was not recovered but he was found in possession of drugs believed to be morphine and crystal methamphetamine.

The 42-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with theft, two counts of drug possession and breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.

Two incidents at same intersection

Yesterday just after 7 p.m.,  a 58-year-old Guelph man fell off his bicycle while riding near the intersection of Janefield Avenue and College Avenue. The man was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution. At the same time this happened there was a collision between two other vehicles at the same interception that appears to be the result of the distraction of the male who fell off of his bicycle. One of the drivers involved in that collision was charged with careless driving.

On June 20, 2017 the Guelph Police Service responded to 230 calls for service.
