In the early afternoon of June 6 a male was in the process of taking apart a bike that was locked on Carden Street when he was seen by a passerby.

Police alerted to theft in progress

In the early afternoon of June 6 a male was in the process of taking apart a bike that was locked on Carden Street when he was seen by a passerby. When the male realized that he had been seen, he stopped what he was doing and ran off. The alert witness contacted police and provided information that allowed police to locate the male a short while later in the downtown core and arrest him.

 The 22-year-old Guelph male was charged with theft, attempt theft and breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court today.

Remote found in unlocked car used to break in

Sometime between June 5 at 9 p.m. and June 6 at 7 a.m., unknown culprit(s) used the garage door remote located in an unlocked vehicle to gain entry to a Bowen Drive garage. A theft of approximately $3,000 worth of power tools are reported stolen.

The number of thefts from autos are routinely reported in the GPS media release and it cannot be stressed enough of the importance of keeping your vehicles locked. These are simply crimes of opportunity and as this type of incident illustrates, it can often lead to additional problems when our diligence falters. Lock it or lose it.

Traffic stop arrest

Just before 3 a.m. today, police observed a male being sought on previous charges who was operating an e-bike in the area of Stone Road and Scottsdale Drive. The male was stopped without incident and arrested. A search revealed he was in possession of a knife and a quantity of methamphetamine.

The 21-year-old Guelph male is charged a total of 11 drug, weapons and breach of court order offences. He was held in custody to appear in bail court later today.
