Trespassing, obstructing police, and theft

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

Trespassing

At approximately 1:35 a.m. this morning, staff at a Gordon Street business called police when a male was aggressive and then refused to leave when asked. The male provide a false name to police and further investigation lead to the man’s nearby vehicle with stolen licence plates attached to it.  

The 21-year-old male of no fixed address was arrested and charged with obstruct police, two counts of possession of stolen property and two counts of breach of probation.  He was held in custody to appear in bail court later today.   

Theft

On the evening of Sept. 18, there was an altercation between two males on Carden Street. After the two separated and were walking away, one of the males took the others backpack that contained personal items,  a wallet with money and identification cards. The suspect was identified on video by police.

Thomas Cunningham, a 41-year-old Guelph man was located by police in the downtown core the following day and was arrested for theft under $5000 and breach of probation. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on October 24, 2017.

Over the course of the day on Sept. 19, 2017 the Guelph Police Service responded to 227 calls for service.
