Weekend collisions blamed on drugs, alcohol

One driver – who is alleged to have driven through a driveway, over a lawn and into a hedge – faces charges of possession of hash oil and oxycodone

On Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017 at approximately 9 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located a two vehicle collision on the Hanlon Expressway near Downey Road, Guelph. No one was injured in the collision.

While speaking with one of the drivers, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by drug. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Detachment for testing.

Twenty-one-year-old Justin Ferucio Rogers of Brampton has been charged with driving while impaired by drug contrary to the Criminal Code. He is schedule to appear in Guelph Court on Jan. 19, 2018.

TOWN OF ERIN - On Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017 at approximately 6 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Guelph Street, Erin. It was reported that a green Toyota pickup had driven through a driveway, over a lawn and into a hedge.

OPP attended the crash and while speaking with the lone occupant, a male driver, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by drug. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Detachment for testing.

Thirty-year-old Torey Jaydon Tooze of Erin has been charged with driving while impaired by drug and with failing to comply with a probation order contrary to the Criminal Code. He was also charged with possession of hash oil over 1 gram and possession of oxycodone contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He was held for Bail.

TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON - On Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Eighth Line, Mapleton. It was reported that a red Dodge pickup had driven into a ditch.

OPP attended the crash and while speaking with the lone occupant, a male driver, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Detachment for testing.

Fifty-year-old Paul Martin of Drayton has been charged with driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood and impaired driving contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to attend Guelph Court on Jan. 19, 2018.
