Wellington County OPP charge 22 in first weekend of Festive RIDE program

Alcohol, drug, impaired and driving charges laid during first weekend

COUNTY OF WELLINGTON - This past weekend saw Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) out in full force, actively and purposefully reducing the amount of impaired drivers. Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks resulted in numerous charges and here they are.

Friday, Nov. 23, 2018

  • At approximately 8:15 p.m on Wellington Road 21, east of Elora, a 34-year-old male from Chatsworth was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving with Cannabis Readily Available. His passenger, a 58-year-old male from Chatsworth, was caught and charged with Consuming Liquor not in a Residence or Licenced Place and Failing to Properly Wear Seatbelt.
  • At approximately 9:15 p.m on Gore Road near Townline Road, Puslinch, a 19-year-old male from Stoney Creek was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Unlawfully Purchased Cannabis.
  • At approximately 9:30 p.m on Gore Road near Townline Road, Puslinch, a 28-year-old male form Port Hope was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving with Cannabis Readily Available.
  • At approximately 9:30 p.m on Wellington Road 21, Inverhaugh, a 45-year-old male from Fergus was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving with Over 80 mg of alcohol per 100mL blood and with having Open Liquor Available.
  • At approximately 10 p.m on Wellington Road 16, West Garafraxa, a 22-year-old female from Wellington North was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Driving with Over 80 mg of alcohol per 100mL blood and with having Open Liquor Available.
  • At approximately 10:30 p.m on Gore Road near Townline Road, Puslinch, a 33-year-old male from Cambridge was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving while Suspended, Posses revoked Licence and Driving with Cannabis Readily Available.
  • At approximately 10:45 p.m on Gore Road near Townline Road, Puslinch, a 29-year-old male from Cambridge was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving while Suspended.

Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018

  • At approximately 1 a.m on Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 27-year-old male from St. Catharines was caught at a RIDE check and charged with using expired plates and issued a three day provincial suspension for operating a motor vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.) between 50 and 80 mg per 100mL of blood.
  • At approximately 1:30 a.m on Highway 7, east of Waterloo, a 25-year-old male from Cambridge was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving with a B.A.C. above zero while being a Novice Driver.
  • At approximately 1:30 a.m on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 26-year-old male from Welland was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Purchased Cannabis and Possession of Cannabis Resin.
  • At approximately 2:15 a.m on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 36-year-old male from Guelph was caught at a RIDE check and issued a three day provincial suspension for operating a motor vehicle with a B.A.C. between 50mg and 80mg per 100mL of blood. He was also charged with Driving without Insurance and Expired Plates.
  • At approximately 2:30 a.m on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 19-year-old male from Waterloo was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving with a B.A.C. above zero while being a Novice Driver.

Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018

  • At approximately 1 a.m. on Highway 6, north of Guelph, a 65-year-old male from Guelph was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving with Over 80 mg of alcohol per 100mL blood.
  • At approximately 9 p.m on Wellington Road 39, north of Guelph, a 29-year-old male from Walkerton was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Open Liquor in a Vehicle.
  • At Approximately 9:30 p.m on Wellington Road 39, north of Guelph, a 25-year-old male from Durham was caught at a RIDE check and charged for Driving while Suspended.
  • At Approximately 9:30 p.m on Wellington Road 39, north of Guelph, a 27-year-old male from Fergus was caught at a RIDE check and charged for Driving while Disqualified.
  • At approximately 9:45 p.m on Wellington Road 39, north of Guelph, a 38-year-old male from Tiverton was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Having Cannabis Readily Available and Operating a Vehicle without Insurance.

Monday, Nov. 26, 2018

  • At approximately 12:30 a.m on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 41-year-old male from Mississauga was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving while Suspended.
  • At approximately 1:15 a.m on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 29-year-old male from Milton was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving while Suspended
  • At approximately 2 a.m on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 35-year-old male from Guelph was caught at a RIDE check and charged with Driving while Suspended.
  • At approximately 2:15 a.m on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph, a 21-year-old female from Moorefield was arrested at a RIDE check for an outstanding warrant from a neighbouring jurisdiction.

Impairment behind the wheel is one of the most dangerous weapons causing death in Canada. When alcohol or drugs are mixed with driving it puts lives in peril. If you suspect someone is driving impaired call 911 immediately, it may save someone's life.
