Woman charged after trying to cash fraudulent $65K bank draft

Police were called when the bank noticed the draft and identification the woman showed were both fraudulent

A Woodbridge woman faces fraud and drug charges after trying to cash a $65,000 fraudulent bank draft.

Just after 5 p.m. Friday, Guelph police were called to a business in the area of Gordon Street and Kortright Road West, where a woman was attempting to cash a bank draft for more than $65,000. The draft and identification presented were both found to be fraudulent.

The woman was arrested and a subsequent search revealed small amounts of suspected cocaine and OxyContin.

A 35-year-old Woodbridge woman is charged with fraud over $5,000, identity fraud and two counts of possessing a controlled substance. She will appear in a Guelph court Aug. 12.
