Woman charged with impaired driving after car hits tree

A Guelph woman faces an impaired driving charge after her car was observed mounting two curbs and hitting a tree Thursday night, report Guelph police.

Just after 10 p.m., police were dispatched to the parking lot of a business in the area of Gordon Street and Harvard Road, where they found a vehicle straddling two parking spots and stopped against a tree.

Witnesses observed the vehicle mount a curb on Stone Road West and then again on Gordon Street before pulling into the parking lot where it collided with the tree.

The driver was standing outside the vehicle and was showing signs of impairment including rambling, slurring her words and being unsteady on her feet. Officers concluded she was impaired by a drug and she was arrested and transported to the police station for further testing.

A 40-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired operation. She will appear in a Guelph court June 24, 2022.
