Woman hits flatbed carrying hydro pole

TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON - On Wednesday March 13, 2019 at approximately 2:50 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 8 and Wellington Road 10 in Mapleton Township.

Investigation revealed that a northbound flatbed truck was towing a hydro pole when it was rear-ended by a northbound sport utility vehicle (SUV). 

Officers confirmed that neither driver was injured as a result of the collision. While speaking with the female driver of the SUV officers determined that her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired. She was placed under arrest and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Irene Steenbergen, 50-years-old of North Perth Township has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation - 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

 A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment were initiated as per statute. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on April 26, 2019 to answer to her charges.
