Youth arrested after weapon incident at high school (Update: charges laid)

March 23 update

Students reported to staff that a 16-year-old male youth may have a weapon in his possession. A search of the youth located an imitation firearm. 

A 16-year-old male from Erin has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Utter threats to cause death or bodily harm

Original release

The youth remains in custody.

TOWN OF ERIN - Today at approximately 9:30 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to an incident at Erin District High School at 14 Boland Dr., Town of Erin.

A 16-year-old male youth is in police custody and facing several criminal charges in relation to bringing a weapon to school.

The incident began when the suspect informed other students that he had a weapon in his possession. The students advised staff of their concerns and the staff located the suspect and removed him from his classroom

OPP attended and arrested the youth for weapons dangerous.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
