In game one of the OMHA Championship, Guelph lost 3-1 to Central Ontario Wolves. Guelph bounced back in the afternoon game with a 2-0 win over the host and defending OMHA Champions the Buffalo Regals.

On Saturday morning a back and forth battle with the Whitby Wildcats resulted in a 3-3 tie. Guelph went into the afternoon game against the Oakville Rangers requiring a win or tie in the hope of advancing to one of the Sunday medal games. After falling behind early 2-0, Guelph fought to tie the game, and scored a late third period goal to seal the win.

With the win, Guelph placed second through the round robin portion of the tournament, allowing them an opportunity in the Gold Medal game on Sunday against the unbeaten first place Central Ontario Wolves.

In the Championship game, Guelph got out to an early lead in the first period 1-0. The score remained the same through second period. Early in the third, Central Ontario scored two quick goals to pull ahead. Guelph tied the game at 2-2 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation time.

The game continued to sudden death overtime, with Guelph carrying the majority of the play. The game continued into a second overtime period and with 51 seconds remaining in that period, Guelph scored the clinching goal on a powerplay.

The Guelph Minor Bantam AAA team would like to thank all the parents and other fans for their support on the weekend. The team would also like to thank the GMHA for their support throughout the year and the Buffalo Regal organization for running a first class tournament.

Guelph is looking forward as Champions, in hosting the 2018 OMHA AAA Bantam Championships in the Royal City next March.

Congratulations to the players and coaches of the Minor Bantam AAA team.
