GYBA Gryphons U15 boys win Division 1 of the Ontario Cup

The Guelph Youth Basketball Association Gryphons U15 Boys (team Vosper) went into the Ontario Cup in Windsor ranked 6th out of the 8 teams in the group the weekend of May 24-26, 2019.

The Guelph Youth Basketball Association Gryphons U15 Boys (team Vosper) went into the Ontario Cup in Windsor ranked 6th out of the 8 teams in the group the weekend of May 24-26, 2019.

In game one the Gryphons faced the #2 ranked and undefeated Golbourne Hornets from the Ottawa region. The Gryphons played a strong game from start to finish and managed to pull out a thrilling 63-62 win.
The loss was the first in any event for the Hornets in the current season. They locals were led by Daniel Wang with 12 points while Robert Vosper and Johnny Beaton each contributed 10.

Game two saw the Gryphons facing the #3 seed CKATT out of Toronto. The Gryphons used stifling defense and a strong inside game to pull out the win 61-43. Vosper scored 16 while Wang scored 13 and Will Glaspell scored 9.
The win guaranteed the Gryphons a spot in the gold medal game on Sunday.

Game three saw the Gryphons facing Blessed Sacrament #1 out of Hamilton. Blessed had not won a game in the tournament and were very motivated. Guelph trailed at the half and led by 1 point starting the fourth period of play.
Guelph won the final period easily to post the win 64-56. Vosper poured in 22 points while Glaspell scored 12 and Wang scored 11.

Game four on the Sunday saw the Gryphons facing the number one seed in the event, the IEM Spartans. The Spartans jumped out to an early 12 point lead but the Gryphons continued to play tough defense while their offense came alive particularly in the second half.
The locals eventually posted a 67-59 win to secure the championship. The team was very grateful to have the support of their families as well as the U15 Gryphon boys Wallace and Robertson players and families who made their way to the game.
Vosper led the way with 20 while Glaspell scored 14 and Beaton contributed 11.

The team went 24-3 on the OBA season, winning their final 13 games and 19 of their last 20.
Every member of the team made valuable contributions in each game of the finals as well as all season long. Next up for the team will be an AAU event in Montreal at the end of June.

Hunter Matthewson, Eric Dewar, Jaylen Phillip, Nick Poloniato, Will Glaspell, Johnny Beaton, Noah Mondesire, Landon Hart, Daniel Wang, Robert Vosper, Jordon Rodgers and Will McKenzie.
