Now that the initial concerns about the legalization of cannabis have gone up in smoke, Canadians have settled into a cautious acceptance that such products are available and easily purchased year-round. That’s good news for Valentine’s Day shoppers, who now have an entirely new category of potential items from which to choose as gifts for their lovers.

“Valentine’s Day is a great day to experiment with cannabis,” said Griffin Kennedy, who serves as shift manager and professional “budtender” at Qbud Cannabis in Guelph. “Not only can it help with potential fun in the bedroom, but it can also help alleviate the stresses for people who don’t have a significant other to celebrate with.”

Valentine’s Day can be an emotional roller coaster, not only for long-established couples looking to spice things up but also for individuals going through the delicate dance of courtship. Anxieties can run high, whether it’s the result of meeting a blind date (or virtual blind date), striking up a conversation at dinner or becoming intimate together for the first time. Thankfully, Kennedy says numerous cannabis products may help ease Valentine stressors.

“There are a number of strains that may help,” said Kennedy. “Ghost Train is an active stimulant. This will bring some euphoria, some energy, and help raise the heart rate a little, can make you a little bit happier and more optimistic. Also, MK Ultra can be good for anxiety, which some people experience when going through the dating process. It will help put their mind and body at ease.”

For couples who prefer the therapeutic benefits of cannabis over the psychoactive high associated with various flower strains, Kennedy says there are other products available at Qbud that are perfect compliments to Valentine’s Day intimacy.

“When you look at topicals, we carry a lubricant-infused oil which is good for massaging and applying to the body,” he said. “The cool thing about it is that it won’t get you intoxicated. It will give you a lot of direct pain relief on the outside but not a psychoactive high.”

Qbud has a variety of other gift ideas for Valentine’s Day, including various glass pipes, joint carrying cases, bongs in a variety of colours and even bath balms balanced with healing CBD and THC elements. However, Kennedy says they also stock one of the most popular and traditional Valentine’s Day gifts.

“A very popular item on Valentine’s Day is chocolate, and we have both dark and milk chocolate in forms with both CBD, THC, or a balance of both,” said Kennedy. “If you wanted to get a feeling of calmness without getting a buzz, we have CBD chocolate which is a really nice option.”

For those who feel Valentine’s Day is more about sex than romance, Kennedy says many natural cannabis products can deliver much of the same effect as pharmaceutical  drugs.

“Lemon Haze is one, Amnesia Haze is another. The Ghost Train Haze is a really good stimulant. Any Northern Lights is a great stimulant as well. All of those are very activated Sativa that will bring euphoria, elevate the heart and provide energy, all the things that you’d need to enjoy your night.”
