For more than 85 years, Gilbert MacIntyre & Son has served the community of Guelph as a local, family business centred on the needs of the community. Each passing is treated with the utmost respect by caring professionals. With nearly a century of service, the generations of Gilbert MacIntyre & Son have seen funeral service change and evolve over the years. Some trends for 2021 include:

Preplanning

When a loved one passes, even if it’s expected, things can quickly fall into disarray. The family may disagree on where the deceased would prefer to rest (such as buried beside a wife that passed or beside a second wife), if the body should be buried or cremated, and type of service to have. The administration side of things can be arduous too – where are the insurance papers? What do you do with the death certificate? Are there membership accounts to close? How do we treat the accounts at the bank?

Preplanning for one’s passing, while you are alive and can discuss your wishes with your family, removes a great burden at the time of your death. Gilbert MacIntyre & Son have a dedicated pre-need professional on staff to guide you through this process.

Cultural Identity

As Canada continues to welcome people across the globe, we grow in culture and learn new traditions. Those that came before us, the First Nations, also have traditions around funeral service.  Honouring funeral traditions is an important part of the grieving process for many families.

Gilbert MacIntyre & Son is open to learning, and performing where applicable, the traditions of the families they serve.

Celebration of Life

Some families choose a celebration of life instead of a traditional funeral, or wish to hold the ceremony in the place the deceased loved best – on a golf course, by the favourite fishing stream, etc. Gilbert MacIntyre & Son achieve the balance between encouraging mourning with the support of friends and family with the desire to move outside the bounds of a traditional church funeral service.

What Does the Future Hold?

In the past the loved one was mourned at home with the casket open and friends and family dropping by. Today there are visiting hours, urns in any shape and size you wish, green burials, life celebrations, traditions, and more to consider. The important thing is to honour the passing in the way that best reflects on their life and provides closure and healing to the ones left behind.

Gilbert MacIntyre & Son understands that time, traditions, and rituals change, and they are here to provide the funeral services you need with the aspects that matter the most to you and your family.
