Guelph Chef Uses Food Truck to Deliver a Unique Wine Tour Experience

Chef Scotty Yates helps people discover interesting places, while making lasting memories

Back in 1997, Scott Yates was invited to a friend’s wedding which changed his life. During the reception, the bride and groom had hired a chef who created courses that represented all of the places to which the couple had traveled. He took the people on an adventure simply by creating a journey with food. This was a wonder to Yates, who had always enjoyed cooking, but had never really realized how much of an experience food can bring. Scott Yates found his calling that night. He wanted to create memorable and lasting experiences with food.

Within a few years, Scott had studied culinary arts, worked in various kitchens, managed catering businesses, and worked his way up to Sous Chef. Before too long, he earned his Red Seal Chef Certification, and Chef Scotty Cooks was born.

In 2014 he debuted his Bistro Tour food truck at the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival. He quickly found a home within the food truck community and enjoyed the camaraderie that came with travelling together to festivals all over Ontario. The truck also afforded him the opportunity to continue his catering business which was thriving thanks to his love for preparing locally sourced food. His slogan quickly became “What Love Tastes Like”.

The success of the business was wonderful, but Yates is not one to rest on his laurels. Instead, he wanted to bring an experience to the restaurant and tourism industries that no one else was doing. So, he created the catered wine tour.

During the tour, up to six people ride in the food truck, and enjoy a selection of food that he has personally created for them. While they eat, they are being driven to an interesting venue. Often, the destinations are lesser-known wineries, breweries and craft distilleries, who take the guests in for a tour. Meanwhile, Chef Scotty stays in the truck, preparing the next seating. When the tour is done, the clients get back in the bus and eat on route to their next destination. It is a day-long affair that is ideal for couples, wedding parties, or a good group of friends who want a day they will always remember.

Call today to book. Let Chef make the food. You make the memories.
