Ahmri Vandeborne, Guelph Arts Councils new Communications and Events Assistant for summerfall 2020

Guelph Arts Council is excited to welcome our new Communications and Events Assistant for summer/fall 2020, AhmriVandeborne. Ahmri has been helping to promote local cultural events, artist opportunties and GAC artist members through social media and e-news articles.

As a visual artist and musician, as well as a lover of all things arts-related, Ahmri is eager to work on some big and exciting projects with Guelph Arts Council including Digital Doors Open and the Guelph Emerging Artist Mentorship Program, among others. She’s looking forward to working with the community in diverse and unique ways, and contributing to pre-existing projects and events in new ways that adapt to the current global circumstances that have encouraged us all to “go-digital”.

AhmriVandeborne is a multidisciplinary artist and co-founder of Otherwise Studios in Guelph Ontario. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a BAH in Studio Art, Art History, and French. Ahmri brings experience in community-building, communications, and large-scale event coordination, and believes that any project is best executed with creativity, collaboration, and community at the core.

Ahmri is passionate about building and fostering inclusive communities, and knows that working with Guelph Arts Council will provide opportunities to collaborate and connect with like-minded individuals, learn from the community, and positively challenge her creative thought-process.

Outside of her work at Guelph Arts Council, Ahmri is continuously working on several community projects such as livestreams, workshops, and digital collaborations to serve the Guelph community through Otherwise Studios, a community arts hub co-founded with Abby Nowakowski. Some of these projects include Art Not Shame’s Art in Hard Times Mural Project, which brings together mentors and artists in a six-week community online-mural; and a digital collaborative artist residency program, Co-Create, run in collaboration with Bumaroo in which visual artists, musicians, and creatives were paired with one another to create a collaborative and socially-distanced capstone project that will be presented on a unique digital platform.
