WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington County and its member municipalities are getting a $6 million investment from the province for infrastructure projects.

This year’s Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) amounts were announced today with $200 million spread across 424 municipalities in the province.

The County of Wellington is getting over $1.8 million from this funding.

The seven municipalities qualified for this as well and are receiving approximately the following:

  • Centre Wellington, $1.2 million
  • Erin, $260,000
  • Guelph/Eramosa, $445,000
  • Mapleton, $400,000
  • Minto, $500,000
  • Puslinch, $170,000
  • Wellington North, $1 million

OCIF, first launched in 2014, provides funding to help small, rural and northern municipalities build and repair infrastructure such as roads, bridges or wastewater.

Funding amounts are determined through a formula rather than an application. Funding can be accumulated over five years for larger projects but municipalities must report back to the province on how they're used.

"COVID-19 has created challenges for everyone, including our municipal partners," said Laurie Scott, minister of infrastructure, in a press release. "By making this stable, predictable investment, our government is not only improving critical infrastructure, we are strengthening local economies, creating jobs and laying the foundation for our long-term recovery."
