CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Township of Centre Wellington is making significant changes to services in response to new developments to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a press release, more facilities will be closing as of 4 p.m. today.

Recreation facilities, including the CW Community Sportsplex, the Elora Community Centre and Belwood Hall are closed until April 5. No new bookings or registrations for programs will be accepted until further notice.

The Victoria Park Senior Centre will be closed until April 5. All special events, bus trips and Wednesday lunches have been suspended until May 1.

All performances at the Fergus Grand Theatre from March 16 to April 15 have been cancelled or postponed.

Elora & Fergus Tourism Office will be closed but the public washroom will remain open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The health of Centre Wellington residents and staff is our priority,” said Mayor Kelly Linton in a press release. “With the COVID-19 situation changing rapidly, we are making our decisions with the support of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and other health professionals.”

In-home service requests and water meter service has been cancelled until further notice. Building officials will still conduct legislated visits.

The township is working to prevent the spread of germs by increasing good hygiene signage, ensuring soap dispensers are full and working, increasing cleaning of high-touch areas and working closely with government counterparts to monitor information.

The press release says the town is advising against any non-essential visits to township buildings. They are encouraging business to be conducted online or by phone and to use the secure mail dropbox at the municipal office at 1 MacDonald Square in Elora.

Any further changes will be posted to the township website at www.centrewellington.ca/emergencyplanning

“We will continue to monitor the situation and make appropriate changes as necessary,” Linton said in a press release.
