CENTRE WELLINGTON – The aquatic centre at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex will be reopening with health and safety precautions in place.

At a meeting in late June, township council approved a recommendation to reopen the pool on Tuesday. Aug. 4.

A press release from the town said staff have been working diligently to ensure safety and health precautions are in place. In the release, mayor Kelly Linton said the aquatic centre is a vital part of the Centre Wellington family community.

“It was important to council that the health and mental well-being of our residents was acknowledged when reopening considerations were taking place,” Linton said. “How we use these amenities will be very different than before, the safety of our community is crucial.”

Swimmers are asked to expect a different experience as staff ensure physical distancing protocols are maintained.

The aquatic centre will have public swims, aquafit, lane swims, parent and toddler swims, leisure swims and lessons. Swimming lessons will be offered in either private or semi-private formats or alternatively to a family or social bubble.

Visitors must pre-register online for swims, no in-person registration will be accepted. Anyone entering the sportsplex must wear a mask and only those registered can enter.

Patrons need to check in with staff and will be screened on-site.

On deck viewing is limited to one person per family group of swimmers under 18 years old or anyone requiring assistance.

Change rooms are for washroom use only. Swimmers need to arrive dressed in bathing attire.

Participants can register seven days in advance of the program online
