FERGUS – An employee at the Nexans plant in Fergus has been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Plant manager Cameron Matthew said they have been in contact with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and are following their advice to handle the situation.

“We’ve gone through the risk assessment guidelines with public health,” Matthew said. “Based on that we’ve told people what risk levels exist and how to deal with that.”

Matthew explained that they did do a thorough cleaning of the area the employee works but the plant does not need to close.

“It’s a pretty spread out environment, so for example this person would work alone on their machine,” Matthew said. “So, not really working in close proximity to anyone.”

Matthew said they have been sharing the risk assessment with their employees and praised public health for their help dealing with this issue.

Nexans, headquartered in Paris, France, is one of the largest energy cable manufacturers in the world.
