WELLINGTON COUNTY - County engineer Don Kudo assumed the role of president of the Ontario Public Works Association’s (OPWA) for the 2022 term.

At the organization’s annual general meeting on Jan. 20, Kudo was appointed the role for the Ontario chapter.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being on the OPWA board of directors since 2017 and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as president of the Ontario chapter for the upcoming year,” stated Kudo in a press release issued by the County of Wellington.

“The organization does excellent work of connecting public works practitioners from across the province, and I’m looking forward to continuing to engage with these members and finding innovative ways to advocate for public works in our communities.”

Kudo is a professional engineer who has worked in the municipal engineering field for over 33 years, with experience working at the City of Guelph and the Town of Halton Hills.

Currently, he has worked as the Wellington County engineer since 2017.

“Like many associations, OPWA has faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Kudo.

“I am confident we can continue to find ways to provide value to our members and the public works industry.”

The OPWA is a not-for-profit organization that works to connect the public works community and promote professional excellence and public awareness through education, advocacy and the exchange of knowledge regarding public works in Ontario.

The OPWA is the Ontario Chapter of the Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA) and the American Public Works Association (APWA), and is the largest Canadian Chapter in the APWA with approximately 600 members.
