COUNTY OF WELLINGTON – The county has closed all waste facilities based on social distancing protocols from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and the province.

Residents are asked to use the curbside collection services to dispose of their residential waste. To ensure collection, waste materials need to be placed on the curb in a user-pay bag by 7 a.m. on their scheduled day.

According to a press release, the county will extend service to residents who live on unassumed roads. To have service extended to these areas, residents should contact the county’s Solid Waste Services office to make these arrangements.

Any residents whose waste disposal needs exceed curbside collection are asked to contact a commercial bin hauling company.

A press release from the county says the curbside collection contractor is working hard to maintain waste removal services during the COVID-19 situation and the user-pay system makes this possible.

“The user-pay system supports the ability of the collection workers to perform this service by having a fee for waste that is set out,” the press release says. “Having no fees for waste could compromise the collection workers ability to pick up the large amount of waste at roadside.”

The county is increasing deliveries of the user-pay bags to distributors across the county.

The county is closely monitoring the quickly evolving situation as it relates to the challenges residents face with changed waste management service levels.
