COUNTY OF WELLINGTON – The County of Wellington will be holding its first remote meeting.

The meeting will be at the same time as it was originally scheduled, 10 a.m. on March 26. This meeting was previously rescheduled to March 20 before being cancelled as health officials recommended against public gatherings.

The meeting will be held through a teleconference call. The recently passed Bill 187 has allowed municipal and county governments to conduct meetings electronically. Residents can access the meeting by dialing in.

“We have a line set-up with Bell Canada teleconferencing services that will allow the public to call in and listen as inactive participants,” said Donna Bryce, county clerk.

Bryce said there are no delegations at this meeting. The agenda with new reports will be going out this afternoon. The number for residents to call will be on the agenda as well. Bryce said the county is experienced with teleconference calls but this is unchartered territory for them.

“This will be the first time we’ve ever done a teleconference that the public is listening in on,” Bryce said. “It’s hard to say how many people might be trying to call in.”

Bryce recommends residents who wish to listen to call early to avoid any possible issues with the new system.
