Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington (BBSCW) is excited to announce that Soap Box Derby Champion, Chris Etherington, is holding a workshop in town to encourage local youth to create their own soap box derby car. The annual Soap Box Derby is being held Saturday July 1st and there is still time to register and participate in this fun event.

In 1985, at the age of 12, Etherington was the Canadian Junior Champion and International Champion at the All American Soap Box Derby. He started at age 4, building soap box derby cars with his father. “I learned so much about construction, aerodynamics and physics building these cars. My dad was determined to make them slicker each year. It was a great bonding experience with my dad, and I had fun competing on the International circuit,” stated Etherington. “I look forward to sharing my knowledge with local kids and to pass on some of my passion for this sport.”

The workshop will be held June 7th between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Complex.

Bring your car, or just bring your questions! We are eager to meet this year’s (or future) competitors.
