The Town of Minto will not reopen its municipal office to the public on Tuesday as previously announced, nor will it resume in-person council meetings as planned on Sept. 21.
"As the cases in our area begin to rise, due in large part to the very contagious delta variant, the Town of Minto remains committed to safeguarding the health, wellbeing, and safety of our employees," the release said.
Members of the public are encouraged to book appointments for services that require them to meet with town staff in-person by calling or emailing the municipal office.
All council meetings will continue to be held via Zoom. The public can tune in by following a link on either the town's website or Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the Township of Mapleton is still planning to reopen its municipal office on Tuesday and resume in-person council meetings later that month. Mapleton's CAO noted the meetings will be held at community centres to ensure distancing.
Similarly, the Town of Erin confirmed in an email it is on track to reopen its town hall on Tuesday, "as we continue to follow health guideline of our public health unit." Erin councillors have continued to meet in-person during the pandemic, with distancing and masking protocols in effect.
The Tuesday after Labour Day will also see Guelph/Eramosa councillors back in the chamber, but Mayor Chris White emphasized staff and the public will still be participating electronically through a hybrid system. Council members will also have the option to continue to tune in virtually. The Guelph/Eramosa municipal office remains closed for in-person service with no immediate plans to reopen.
