ERIN – Big bucks are needed to implement changes suggested by Erin residents during a strategic planning exercise earlier this month.
A new release on the Town of Erin's Monopoly Night strategic planning engagement open house on Oct. 9 has listed 20 top community projects identified by residents, including developing green standards, new facilities and programming and accommodations for future growth.
The release said the information collected from Monopoly Night will play a "vital role" in shaping the town's community strategic planning process.
Residents spent $169,965,100 in Erin Bucks at the event.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and the valuable input we received," said Mayor Michael Dehn in the release. "The results reflect the true
interests and desires of our residents, and we’re committed to incorporating this feedback into our corporate strategic plan."
The top 10 community projects based on public feedback were:
- Develop a 10-year improvement plan to rehabilitate or replace aging bridges and culverts
- Support senior programming
- Promote green design standards (GDS), smart green technology, and climate action
initiatives
- Establish and enforce green standards for all new developments and create guidelines
- Reduce truck traffic on main streets
- Launch a community education campaign on circular economies, sustainable development
- Partner with local organizations
- Establish and foster relationships with key equine businesses
- Create and implement strategies for new and existing recreation facilities
- Update the Recreation Master Plan and secure funding for new amenities
The top 10 community projects based on Erin Bucks were:
- Build a new multi-use recreation centre - $32.4 million
- Promote green design standards (GDS), smart green technology, and climate action initiatives - $12.2 million
- Conduct a roads needs study to prioritize repairs, paving, and improvements - $6.56 million
- Develop a 10-year improvement plan to rehabilitate or replace aging bridges and culverts - $6.29 million
- Establish and enforce green standards for all new developments and create guidelines - $6.28 million
- Identify wastewater connection priorities through septic inspection monitoring and seek funding opportunities - $6.22 million
- Support Senior Programming - $6 million
- Enhance accessibility with ramps and other initiatives - $5.35 million
- Develop a Transportation Master Plan, including a detailed traffic plan to address future growth - $5.33 million
