Efforts to eliminate another signalized intersection from the Hanlon Expressway are poised to move ahead.

Design and construction work related to the removal of traffic lights at the intersection with Wellington Road 34 is expected to begin this fall. Traffic lights to be replaced with on and off ramps, along with other associated works in impacted roads.

“We want to commence work as soon as possible to meet the overall construction schedule," Peter Bamforth, senior project manager, told the Wellington County roads committee on Wednesday.

A second round of design and construction work is slated to launch next spring/summer, with the project's completion expected by the end of 2025.

“It’s going to be a benefit to the community,” said Puslinch Mayor James Seeley, who worries the project will not reduce traffic on Brock Road.

Most of the public comments received so far have been in favour of removing the signalized intersection, Bamforth noted.

There will be some road closures during construction, but Bamforth said they would be kept to a minimum.

The first phase of the project – replacement of the Concession Road 7 bridge over Highway 401 – was completed in 2020.
