WELLINGTON NORTH — Wellington North council will grapple with a staff report recommending it invest in the rehabilitation of the Mount Forest water tower at its Monday afternoon meeting.

The project would involve the outside and inside of the tower, or standpipe as it is also called, sand blasted and then painted.

The estimated cost of the project is $1,670,727. That includes $125,000 for added fees such as, engineering costs, coating examination, working on the antenna and so on.

The staff recommendation is for the contract to be awarded to Dayson Industrial Services Inc. for the cost of $1,545,727.

The previous council actually approved $950,000 for the project in its 2021 capital budget.

As well the township’s application to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) was successful.

The ICIP grant is from the federal and provincial governments to foster economic growth, social inclusion and green initiatives.

The cost breakdown for the project involves $950,000 from the township’s 2021 capital budget, $451,000 from the federal government’s portion of the ICIP grant and $375,796 for the provincial government’s portion of the ICIP grant.

At its Monday afternoon meeting, council will have the opportunity to vote to have Dayson Industrial Services Inc. go ahead with the project.
