MAPLETON – The Township of Mapleton have clarified there is no impersonator going door-to-door and the census taking claim is legitimate.

Just before 9 a.m. this morning, the Township of Mapleton tweeted an alert about an alleged firefighter impersonator taking the census door-to-door in Moorefield.

It encouraged those approached to contact the OPP.

CAO Manny Baron said the tweet was an error and what the person was doing was legitimate.

“There’s no intention of impersonating anybody, he is a firefighter for Moorefield,” Baron said, adding that he also happens to be doing work for Census Canada.

“Because it’s a little bit chill out he put a firefighters coat he had on,” Baron said. “It is a legitimate knock at the door.”

Baron said the tweet went out because at the time they didn’t know and if it hadn’t been a firefighters jacket it would have been a “moot point.”
