WELLINGTON COUNTY – The county is offering a temporary delivery service of its user-pay garbage bags.

This is a result of proactive measures that have closed all county waste facilities which has therefore left residents to use curbside collection. In the county, garbage must be placed in county-issued user-pay bags.

User-pay garbage bags have been available at essential businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies and hardware stores. For residents who are isolating themselves, buying bags could prove to be a challenge.

“We have heard from residents who are self isolating that they are finding it challenging to get user-pay garbage bags,” said Warden Kelly Linton in a press release.

Residents can now get these bags delivered to their homes through www.wellington.ca/wasteinfo or to call (519)-837-2601 to make arrangements.

“The county is pleased to be able to offer this temporary solution to assist our most vulnerable citizens with their waste disposal needs,” Linton said in a press release.

Das Soligo, manager of solid waste services, said in the press release that maintaining user fees helps limit the amount of waste that is being placed roadside.

“We’re seeing more household garbage being generated than usual,” Soligo said in a press release. “The county’s curbside waste collectors are working long hours to collect everyone’s waste and the user-pay system helps us ensure this service won’t be compromised.”

Curbside collection will continue to occur on its regularly scheduled day. For any information on collection days or curbside collection in general, visit www.wellington.ca/sws or email [email protected]
