CENTRE WELLINGTON – Members of the public will have chance to give input and get an update on the Pierpoint Research Project project to raise awareness of Black loyalist Richard Pierpoint as well as Black Canadian history.

The workshop will take place Dec. 1, at 6 p.m., at the Elora Community Centre.

Pierpoint was a veteran of the War of 1812, and was granted land in West Garafraxa Township in 1822.

In 2020, Parks Canada designated him as a National Historic Person because of the things he experienced, his struggles and his contributions in Upper Canada.

Questions participants in the evening will discuss include:

- What is significant about Richard Pierpoint and his property? What are the stories that should be protected and shared?

- How should Pierpoint’s story in the Township of Centre Wellington be protected and told? Where should it be told?

- What are some potential interpretive tools that could be used to recognize and broaden awareness of Pierpoint’s significance and history in the Township and beyond?

Those who’d like to attend the workshop can register by emailing, [email protected]
