NEWS RELEASE

The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is barking for joy as they kick-start their holiday giving campaign. During this festive and generous time of year, GHS asks you to open your heart and give hope to the most vulnerable animals in our community.

The GHS has exciting news this year! From now until Dec. 31, gifts will be matched by generous corporate sponsors up to a total of $7,000.

That means that for every $1 donated, it becomes $2 to help animals in need! GHS would like to thank sponsors Sutherland Insurance, Alliance Roofing, Ren’s Pets, and RLB Chartered Professional Accountants for their generosity and for making this campaign possible.

The holiday season can be a busy time of year for everyone, including GHS, which often sees an increase in the number of pets arriving as strays or surrendered pets in need of extensive medical care. They ensure these pets feel the warmth and joy of the holiday season.

Each year, GHS helps thousands of pets, like Butterscotch, a sweet poodle cross who was found in terrible condition last fall. Thanks to generous donors and supporters of GHS, Butterscotch received the care he needed and will be spending this holiday season with his loving adopter.

GHS would like to remind the community that they are a registered charitable organization and receive no government funding for their charitable work. It is important to differentiate between the services offered to the municipalities by the Guelph Humane Society and the services the humane society offers the community.

GHS is contracted by the City of Guelph, as well as the Townships of Guelph-Eramosa and Centre Wellington to provide municipal animal control services, which addresses any stray pets, as well as sick and injured animals. This service provides important support for citizens in the community who may come across an animal in need. GHS does not profit from providing this service.

Any fees associated with providing the animal control services do not support the activities of the humane society, such as extensive medical care, spay and neuter surgeries, microchipping, humane education, enrichment and pet adoption.

These services are supported by generous donors in our community. The care of all animals at GHS is only possible thanks to donors, who help fund spay/neuters, vaccinations, medications, life-saving surgeries, high-quality food, snuggles, love and so much more.

This holiday season consider giving the gift of warmth and hope to our community’s most vulnerable animals. Donate today by calling 519-824-3091, going online at guelphhumane.ca/donate-online, or mailing your cheque to 500 Wellington St. W., P.O. Box 684, Guelph, ON N1H 6L3. Remember, the deadline to have your gift matched is Dec. 31, 2020.

The Guelph Humane Society wishes you and all your pets a ‘pawsitively’ happy holiday!
