GuelphToday received the following letter from reader N D Smith with some thoughts on elderly pedestrians.

Dear Editor,

Kudos to Chuck Castillo for his letter re the new traffic lights at Woolwich and Speedvale. They are indeed a slap in the face to pedestrians. I think we are already aware that pedestrians, especially elderly pedestrians, are indeed treated like second class citizens in Guelph.

I have complained about the short walking time allowed to cross Woolwich at the Senior Centre to no avail. Many older pedestrians and those with disabilities find the walk signal much too short for safe crossing. Only this week I saw a woman trying to cross with her walker. A kind driver got out of his car and helped her through the slushy snow that was impeding her. Thank goodness some people care.

Sincerely
N D Smith
